Canteen is nestled on the main street in Richmond, and has a stunning assortment of pastries and cronuts in the window. They always manage to catch my eye. Upon entering the cafe, you are greeted with a busy and welcome atmosphere. With wood all over and the dampers and breads on the walls, the vibe is definitely felt upon entering.
Looking through their menu you can see a great assortment of foods, offering your stand meals and so others that might be for the more adventurous. For instance, sweet dumplings which are apparently for breakfast; something I will need to go back and try.
On today’s menu I had the Turkish Eggs. Reading over the menu I was curious to see how they would pull this off, with lamb and poached egg.
When it arrived it looked amazing, the wooden board, bread and cute little metal dish that it was served in; it did look amazing. The lam was amazing and tender, with some spinach and assorted garnish, all round it was an ok meal. The only part that brought it down was the layer of yoghurt that they had on top.
Now I do love my yoghurt and have nothing against it. There was probably just a little much. I would have liked to have more meat and filling then yoghurt. Trying to dip the bread through the yoghurt to the filling underneath was a little hard, and I had to carve out a little spot to poke the bread through.
Having said that, I have eaten other items off the menu and they’ve been fantastic; so I will definitely be going back again. There are also other things on the menu that I still want to try.
